- Install Auto-Editor
Follow the official installing guide at auto-editor.com/installing for your platform (downloads and package routes are listed there).
- Make the first-pass cut
Run auto-editor on your video — it analyses loudness and writes a new, tightened file with the silent sections removed.
- Tune or hand off
Adjust --margin and thresholds (e.g. --edit audio:-19dB) until the pace feels right, or export the timeline to your editor with --export premiere / resolve / final-cut-pro.

Is Auto-Editor free?
Yes — everything in the repository is public domain under the Unlicense. The optional online runner and desktop app at auto-editor.com use some separate proprietary assets, per the README, but the CLI itself is public domain.
What exactly does it cut?
By default, sections whose audio falls below the loudness threshold — silence and dead space. You control the threshold and margin, and can add motion-based and multi-label rules.
How does it compare to a well-known alternative?
Against jumpcutter-style scripts, Auto-Editor is the mature, maintained tool: dB thresholds, labelled rules, speed sections and exports to professional editors. Against an AI clipper, it makes no content judgements at all — it tightens the whole video deterministically, which is often exactly what you want first.
